We envision a future in which all Senegalese and African youth are the forefront of solving their country's greatest challenges. Local solutions are the only way out. The COVID-19 pandemic is no different. That's why we're proud we've been able to offer our signature afterschool program, employing local youth as tutors, throughout the pandemic.
Our programs equip youth with critical 21st century skills such as team work and effective communication.

About Jeunesse Action
Senegal, like many African countries, has a large and growing youth population that — if provided with the right supports — can propel its economy forward. We started Jeunesse Action to equip young people in Senegal to solve the country’s most pressing challenges. Our vision is that young people in Senegal will take the lead to identify local challenges and come up with local solutions.
Jeunesse Action's program fills a critical gap in Senegalese educational system. Schools typically close at the end of the school day the overwhelming majority of school children do not have access to out of school academic enrichment activities. This has long-term negative impact on the performance of school children on the country’s overall educational achievement and economic advancement. We train young adults (high school seniors and college students) to address this challenge.
Our Program
We are thrilled to have completed the third year of our signature afterschool program in Dakar.
We've gone from serving 31 children in 2021 to serving over 90 children currently in 2023.
We continue to collaborate with École Daroukhane, an elementary school in the Department of Guediawaye, Dakar, Senegal. Guediawaye has a high rate of poverty and equally high rates of youth unemployment. Recruiting local college students as tutors, and serving students whose teachers identified them as needing the most help, we provided consistency in a time of much uncertainty. We were able to continue tutoring via Whatsapp when the Covid-19 pandemic closed all of the schools and have resumed in-person programming following strict public health protocols. Since the start of the 2022-2023 school year, we have been back operating at full and expanded capacity, doing our best to provide services despite interruptions from strikes and other political unrest.

We are proud that our program has been able to expand to serve more students. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to fully cover costs for the next school year.
This moves us one step closer to our long-term goal to serve thousands of kids year-round throughout Senegal.
Here's a breakdown of how far your donation will go:
- $120 pays for the program for one child for the school year
- $90 pays for 1 tutor for 10 weeks
- $20 pays for school supplies for one child for the duration of the program
All of our funds go directly towards staffing and supplies in Senegal. Jeunesse Action's founder and board members work pro bono, and are pleased to provide these employment opportunities to local Senegalese youth who run the program so skillfully.
